Controller Devices
This list contains all of your controller devices. Select a device in the list to modify the advanced settings for that device.
Show Wizard
Click the "show wizard" link to display the Device Setup Wizard. The wizard will ask you a few questions and help you to detect the proper axis mappings needed for your controller device. If you are having trouble with your controller functioning properly in Pinnacle then running the wizard will probably fix those problems. The wizard also features a tester page that allows you to fully test Pinnacle's reading of the device (with the current device settings).
Axis Mapping
The Axis Mappings of a device determine which internal "axis" is responsible for movement of a particular joystick, pedal, rutter, or analog trigger. Each joystick has an axis for vertical movement and an axis for horizontal movement. If your controller device has a rutter, pedal, or analog trigger then it is controlled by a single axis. You can select the axis assignment to use for each of your joysticks and individual axes using these dropdown boxes. The axes used for joysticks and other controls vary from device to device. If you find your joystick is responding to your pushing left/right by moving up/down, or vice versa, then you may need to adjust the axis assignments for one or more joysticks.
For more information, see the Frequently Asked Questions.
Joystick/Axis Count
This box displays the number of joysticks versus individual axes on the controller device. A controller can have up to 6 axes that are typically used for joysticks, pedals, rutters, and analog triggers. Pinnacle can detect the total number of axes available on your device; however, there is no way to know how many are used by joysticks and how many are individual axes (pedals, rutters, and triggers). Use the up/down arrows to adjust the number of joysticks found on your device so that Pinnacle can properly display the joysticks and axes on the Controller Configurations window.
Joystick Calibration
Joystick Calibration is used to find the neutral (center) position of a joystick. In order for Pinnacle to accurately determine the direction a joystick is being pushed, it must know the internal values returned by the joystick's neutral position. Press this button to display the Joystick Calibration window, allowing you to adjust the calibration for the selected device.
Restore Default Settings
Use this button to restore the default axis assignments for the selected device. To restore the default calibration settings, use the 'Restore Defaults' button on the Joystick Calibration window.
Notes and Tips
- It's recommended that you use the device setup wizard to select the proper axis mappings through auto-detection.
- Any axis marked "classic" does NOT use DirectInput (DirectX) and instead uses classic Windows API to read from the device.
- Although it is not normally recommended to use the same axis assignment more than once, it is common for next-generation controllers (such as Xbox360) to use Z AXIS on both of it's triggers (individual axis). In that case Pinnacle will automatically seperate the shared axis readings for each trigger so that they can be fired independently of each other (using XINPUT).
- If you continue to have trouble finding the correct axis mappings, then please visit the Pinnacle Forum for assistance.
