Create a Standard Command PDF Print E-mail

To create a standard command for a game, follow these steps...

From the Controller Configurations window, move the mouse over any of the button assignment labels then click the left mouse button. The assignment popup menu will appear, containing a list of all the currently existing commands. Click the 'Edit Commands...' item from the popup menu to display the Edit Commands window.

Press the 'New' button to add a new command to the list. You will see the 'New Command' item has been added.

Modify the name of the new command to describe the action it will perform (such as 'Jump', 'Move Left', or 'Fire Weapon').

Press the 'Edit Steps' button to display the Edit Events Steps window so that you can add the event steps to the new command. These event steps tell Pinnacle what it should do when the command is fired.

Make sure the 'Capture Keyboard' box is currently checked.

Press the key on your keyboard that is used to perform the action in your game. For instance, many FPS games will fire your weapon using the CTRL (control) key on your keyboard. So if you were creating the command 'Fire Weapon', then you would press the CTRL button on your keyboard to quickly select the CTRL key from the dropdown box.

Select the key type (Key Press, Key Down, or Key Up) that you would like to use. For the example described above we would use a Key Down/Key Up combination. Select the Key Down type and make sure the 'Auto Add Key Up' box is checked. For an explanation of why Key Down/Key Up is better in this scenario than using the Key Press type, see the answer in the Frequently Asked Questions section.

Click the 'Pressed Event' button to add the new Key Down step to the pressed event list. If the 'Auto Add Key Up' box is checked, then a corresponding Key Up step will be added to the released event.

Press the 'OK' button to close the Edit Event Steps window. The new command is now ready and can now be used in your configurations.
