Ok, if your an old school/new school gamer, you should check this free game out http://mkfusion.ipbfree.com/ It's VERY cool!
Basically, it's a huge crossover game featuring many different video game characters & many MANY different elements from different games all wrapped up into one... all done super Mario style!
Just imagine using sonic to fight imps from DOOM, or Mario wearing a megaman suit, or even Luigi using guns from halo, sweet! 8)
As of now, The game is still in it's beta stage & has no gamepad support, but I believe this game will probably be an ongoing project (like pinnacle)
