Default Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (perfect config)

Using the files attached in the download below, you can achieve a perfect setup for using your XBOX 360 controller to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. This setup is very similiar to the way the controller is setup on PS2 and XBOX consoles, and you can do everything from send Gang commands to changing the radio stations. Both triggers are working independently and both joysticks work with full analog. It's all here. To get all these things working at the same time you need to use 2 things. First is a program called SAAC, and second is your Pinnacle Game Profiler. Here's all you have to do to play...

1.) First IMPORT the "gta-xbox360.pin" file into your Pinnacle Game Profiler.

2.) Run the SAAC.EXE file. Keep it running while you are playing.

3.) Run GTA (you can start it through Pinnacle, or through the GTA desktop icon)

NOTE #1: It really doesn't matter if you start SAAC.EXE before or after you start Grand Theft Auto, it's just easier this way.

NOTE #2: You should already see "XBOX 360 for Windows (Controller)" selected in the box in the upper-right and the box in the lower-left on the SAAC window. If not then you just need to select them.

If you cannot or do not wish to use this Pinnacle+SAAC profile, then have a look at this thread for a Pinnacle-only version...

Or you may wish to have a look here for info how to 'downgrade' your GTA:SA back to v1.0 (instead of v1.1) so then it can work with SAAC again...

It looks like you've swapped the triggers with the A and X buttons for the vehicle controls. According to the GTA:SA Xbox manual, left trigger is brake and right trigger is accelerate; whereas A is fire and X is handbrake. Was there a technical reason why these needed to be changed for the PC mapping?

No, there is no "technical" reason I did it that way... I could have set this up ANY way I wanted too, there are no limitations. But I actually based this more on the GTA controller setup for PS2. But really, when you think about it, the new XBOX 360 is setup closer to the old PS2 design than the old XBOX S-Controller design. The only real differences between XBOX 360 controller and PS2 controller is A) triggers instead a 2nd set of shoulder buttons and B) reversal of DPAD and LEFT JOYSTICK placement. So I only have GTA on PS2, so I basically remapped the xbox 360 controller to work how GTA plays on my PS2...

So that's the first reason, but also I did this so that RIGHT TRIGGER is ALWAYS set to Fire Weapon. If you like to use the trigger to fire while on foot, I think you would probably want that trigger to also fire in the car... seems silly to have to press a different button to shoot when you are in a car. And as mentioned above... the placement of the Accelerate and Brake buttons correspond directly with the placement of those buttons on the PS2 controller when playing GTA on PS2.

I guess what it comes down to is that I found it much easier to match the XBOX 360 controller to the PS2 Controller. Because of the poor placement of BACK, START, WHITE, & BLACK buttons on the original xbox controller, even a direct match of button to button would really not even be nearly the same since the buttons have been moved around so much on the new xbox controller.

So this setup is more closely related to the PS2 console controller than the original xbox controller for the reasons described above. But I'd be happy to help you rearrange the buttons if you wish.

Unfortunately this solution doesn't work if you're running a patched version of GTA:SA. SAAC appears to use memory hooks which are now blocked (because of the Hot Coffee fiasco). Since mine is pre-patched, I'm unable to make use of it.

I'll work on a normal profile and post it here once I've finished.

edit:

Never mind, I've got it working now. Cheers!

So GTA is not fully compatible with your Super Dual Box Pro? This solution was designed to fix GTA's incompatibilty with the xbox 360 controller. If your Super Dual Box Pro PS2 adapter is not fully compatible with GTA: San Andreas, I can try to help you fix this but I need for you to describe what sort of incompatibilty your controller is experiencing.

I suppose you should probably change the title of the thread to make it clear it's for the 360 controller.
