    PS2 Gamepad

While a PS2-style gamepad ImageGuide is shown on some of your screen captures I could not find it anywhere on the website. So I created one of my own. I did not get into photoshopping fancy highlights or anything like that and if anybody out there has a better version of it please let me know.
    Enjoy!

    Hi Jim,

I've posted the PS2/PSX ImageGuide that you may have seen. The problem with sharing ImageGuides for a PS2 controller is that there are several different model PS2-to-PC adapters out there. And although I dont know for sure, I have a feeling different adapters may render the buttons as different numbers... Like Triangle may be BUTTON 2 with my adapter, but Triangle may be BUTTON 3 or BUTTON 4 with your adapter. I'd be curious to find out if your PS2 adapter works the same as mine, so please let me know if you try it.

Well I realized I could just test my controller buttons against your ImageGuide, and they DO MATCH! Jim, are you using a "generic" PSX-to-PC from RadioShack?

By the way, not a bad looking ImageGuide... I like how you have the small inset of the back of the controller.

Thanks! : ) I snagged both images from google and did it that way because I could find a decent upper-rear view image.

Anyhow, the adapter I am using is a poorly translated eBay special called "Dual Game Box" by "Tiger". It is a simple dual-gamepad to USB adaptor with extremely simple drivers and analog calibration routines. Works well enough in general, but th calibration is so wacky that I had to create a 40% deadzone for the analog joystick.

I suspect, from my past experiences of taking everything apart to see how they work, that all PS2 gamepads will report the same button ID's, since the PS also uses the same register system that PC's use. The difference may be in where you plug in the gamepad (such as on my adaptor I can use two PS2 gamepads -- never tried it, though). That might create an offset address or it may simply use different the next set of registers.

If I get experimental later this week, I'll play with that and see what it looks like. Of course this brings up a good question: can your profiler support multiple devices simultaneously? If not, can you run more than one instance of PGP at a time?

Yea, the way to control to devices at the same time with Pinnacle is to use 2 instances. There is a thread in the tech support section that describes the technique I use to control both players in Street Fighter 2 for MAME.

Here is a newer, much more attractive version of a PS2 ImageGuide. Enjoy!

Hi guys I've noted that the "Radio-Shack" device and the "Tiger" one, has Start and Select conmutated...
once you Rob said they matched, it's so strange, anyway you can proove it
I'm gonna upload an Image Guide from my device, which, as I know, matches the "Radio-Shack" one.
    hope you enjoy it.
    see the next post

    bye
