Well I managed to convince my friends to do this, considering I don't know squat about code. But I do know quite a bit about the law, so I'll make sure Microsoft doesn't have anything to make a lawsuit against. We're going to start by using entirely unique code, so they can't sue us for that.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

I don't really think you'd have to worry about that, although I don't really know for sure... but I highly doubt MS would sue over the driver. There is already XBCD driver that can work with the MS Xbox controllers, and that guy never got sued... and I would think MS would be happy to have the driver, as they get constant complaints about their not being a driver... they don't care enough to write one, but still I would think they would not be bothered by it either. I wish you and your friends luck on the project!

I'm desperate, can I make a donation for Pinnacle to work in the driver?

I don't know how to write a driver, and I assure you if this were something even remotely easy to do, then someone on the Internet would have released it long ago.

This probably is premature to be posting this since I really dont know what this is or anything about it since I just found it.

Anyways, perhaps someone will find it of interest

That's just the same long (and costly) method that I mentioned in the first post. It's only for if you are really desperate to use the chatpad on the PC, and you have an xbox360 console, and you are willing to shell out over $100 to MS for an xbox360 developer license. It's really not a very realistic solution.

wow what a sad state of affairs...my one trick solution for my htpc is foiled in what appears to be 2 years of lathargy and remiss on microsofts part. Do they not know what a gem they've created?

A couple of thoughts: 1) MS is going to release "natal" next year for both xbox and pc. How could anyone conclude that this will be used only 1-2' away from someones work pc? Obviously MS must know that htpc users will be the market for this thing. Which would lead them to further postulate on how those htpc users will text, since no one wants a keyboard in the living room.....maybe 2010 is the year. 2) On Dec 15th Games for Windows - Live will launch (re-launch?) at the bottom of their homepage it reads: "Games for Windows — LIVE delivers a truly connected experience for PC gamers, letting you enjoy a common Gamertag, Gamerscore, and unified friends list that carries across both supported PC games and the Xbox 360 console. The service also offers single and multiplayer Achievements, voice chat, text messaging and TruSkill online matchmaking." Obviously the pc can do this with a keyboard and mouse config, but it seems that with a renewed focus on pc - console - living room integration that MS might finally stand and deliver....

here is to hoping...that being said I think I'm going to get the dinovo mini, until MS decides to set my people free.
