GameStop Wants to Sell Used Digital Games

The world's largest gaming retailer is researching "technologies" to create a secondhand digital market.

According to GameStop CEO Paul Raines, the retailer is considering "some technologies out there in Europe" that would allow them to create a used games market. Raines didn't elaborate on what these "technologies" were, but noted that "a few companies, a few startups" were already using them.

Personally I think it would be a great idea except for the game makers and game dealers. Many people out there don't need there game/s anymore or don't even like the game. So how do you get rid of it? I think other gamers would like the idea to buy a second hand game sold way, way cheap rather than paying the full price. I think its a good marketing strategy.

Back in the late '80s into the late '90s in our country there was a recession and some private enterprises opened up similar type businesses and bought second hand items to be sold at a very reasonable price and it worked. But thats my personal opinion.

I heard about this a while ago and personally i'm not sure about it at all. I mean second hand games are good and all because there cheaper but the market is starting to decline a little. personally i only buy second hand games that have been out for a while, and the idea of second hand digital downloads really sounds a little stupid to me, as they are usually not full price games anyway, and there is an infinite supply of digital downloads, it would be cheaper for the consumer but the digital copy couldn't be damaged or scratched and would be identical to the new copy only cheaper, this could potentially kill the gaming industry, which would put everyone out of business. This kind of thing doesn't happen in the now almost all online music industry and shouldn't happen in gaming either.
