Hotkey Behavior

Hello, I'm having an issue or perhaps misunderstand hotkey behavior in PGP.

If I make a persistent profile and assign a hotkey to the left bracket ( [ ) on the keyboard and give it a quick command assignment of the letter "a" shouldn't it just type the letter "a" whenever I hit the left bracket key and the profile is running?

Instead I get "[a" when I hit the left bracket key. Is this the intended result?

Do I have to use a modifier key like ctrl to keep the left bracket from being typed?

Unfortunately PGP cannot block the signal of the keyboard hotkey, so normally when used in a game it would be suggested to use a key that the game does not respond to.
