    Elder Scrolls Online announced

    http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/05/03/el...rld-of-skyrim/

very little details about the game is currently known, but is suppose to be set 1000 years before the events of skyrim

personally, I think both oblivion and skyrim weren't up to much, and with a lot of MMO's not succeeding, I find it hard to believe this will be any different, a lot have gone free to play, so I guess this is either a F2P game or a sub based one that probably will go the same way

still, posting it here in case anyone is interested, there should be a teaser trailer released soon, but if its like many teaser trailers, its not going to reveal much

but anyway, the only MMO Im really looking forward to is GW2

others dont float my baot anymore

This is bound to fail. All the people that I know like this game partly because of its emersive and detailed environment, something that is bound to be watered and dumbed down for multiplayer, especially when you consider its the entire land mass of tamriel not just one province.

I'm praying this fails miserably because if its successful we may not see another single player elder scrolls. As a example, I used to love the fantasy star roll playing games on the Sega Genesis. Look what happened to that franchise after fantasy star online.

and lets not forgot WOW and how bad blizzard now are! I agree with you on this, if it does succeed, we may never see a SP game again, but many MMOs have failed over the years, even the Star Wars one, EA paid loads for the licensing rights, and there are less and less subscribers each month, to me, the game is a major flop, so EA may either pull out, make it free to play, or just dont bother with it much. the free to play model, with micro transactions seems to be the most popular route for MMOs, WOW may still be king, but with the changes done to that game over the years, people aren't as bothered with it, as I have a friend that stopped playing it now

and blizzard / activision are not a good team, activision really has made blizzard into a really bad company, but even before that, WOW made them into a bad company, as they creamed off millions from WOW subs, and games from blizz now really aren't as good as they could be

so yeah, if the new elder scrolls game is a success, it going to change that studio, as they will be reliant on money from the game and not bother doing any more games, but this game is set 1000 years before skyrim, but that may not change much, if the game takes off, and elder scrolls as we know it is gone and replaced by an MMO

so yeah, hoping it will be a flop, like so many MMOs

    an update about the game

There are currently 250 people working on this project and its development started in 2007. According to Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios, the game will be fully voice acted and there will be a third-person perspective mode. In addition, the game uses a hotbar to activate skills like other traditional MMOs and will look – visually – similar to most other current-generation MMOs like RIFT and SWTOR, while its artistic style will be similar to RIFT or Everquest 2.

Players won’t be able to turn into werewolves or vampires and although there will be mounts, there won’t be flying mounts. Not only that but there won’t be player housing, NPC romances or marriage, and – most likely – there won’t be any dragons in the game.

According to Todd, “The Elder Scrolls Online needs to be comfortable for people who are comign in from a typical massively multiplayer game that has the same control mechanisms, but it also has to appeal to Skyrim players.” As such, the game uses MMORPG genre standards such as classes, experience points, and other traditional MMORPG progression mechanics.

Zenimax Online is keeping large areas inaccessible to save them for use as expansion content. Nonetheless, every major area is represented to some extent. As an example, Windhelm is fully implemented, but Winterhold and the mages’ college won’t be in at launch.
As you have read earlier, there will be three player factions. These factions are: Ebonheart Pact: The Nords, Dunmer, and Argoninans -Aldmeri Dominion: Altmer, Bosmer, and Khajit -Daggerfall Covenant: Bretons, Redguard, and Orcs.

Players will need around 120 hours to reach the game’s level cap, every faction has their own leveling content, and players won’t be able to master every discipline.

The Elder Scrolls Online will feature raids and heroic modes for its dungeons as end game content in addition to faction PvP and there will be balanced PvP for people who prefer eSports. The game will also have high end public dungeons, which are essentially instances that aren’t actually instanced, meaning that anyone can be in them.

Unfortunately, the combat system won’t be real-time due to latency issues and will be based around a stamina bar which you can use to sprint, block, interrupt, and break incapacitating effects. Blocking is the primary focus of these abilities, and can do things like stopping the secondary effects of attacks such as an ice spell slowing you. Stamina management (and wearing down your enemy’s stamina) is important, as your crowd control abilities might be on a long cooldown, and if you use them before the enemy player runs out of stamina, they will probably just block the effect. Long story short, ZeniMax feels that having the stamina bar will help break down the Holy Trinity as stamina allows you to do things like tank.

The Elder Scrolls Online is slated for a 2013 release and you can find below its first screenshots. Enjoy!

got to say from the sounds of it, just another WOW clone, and not a good one at that, combat not been in real time would be a major flop, I think it looking to be a very bog standard MMO and doing nothing new to what there is already on the market, I say its going to be dead in a few months due to lack of interest, or F2P, what makes them think this is what people want? I really dont know)

I say we are in agreement here Cid, that this MMO will be a flop
