Win7 UAC nag is back (-uac_restart -fixpubdata)

just reinstalled windows 7 and now the UAC nag is back everytime i start PGP. the little shield in PGPs preferences is greyed out, i'm not trying to start it with admin rights. details in the UAC popup show -uac_restart and -fixpubdata appended to the program path even if i doubleclick pinnacle.exe directly.

i believe we've been through all this before, and i remember rob giving me a command line switch to bypass UAC when starting PGP but i can't find it anyhwere. i also remember a PGP user posting his solution to this problem which worked as well - had something to do with security permissions, i don't recall - but i can't find that neither...

any help would be greatly appreciated

I can't remember off-hand having a UAC bypass command line... but my immediate question is are you using the latest version or trying to install an older setup package?

maybe i'm mixing something up there, might have been related to another program. anyways, my PGP installation claims it's v6.3.2 - downloaded fresh off your site on wednesday and i believe it updated itself on first start.

/edit: yea, that command line switch i mentioned was for directory monitor which is obviously something entirely different. so that leaves me with one working solution that someone posted on this foum a while back (like a year or so?), but i'm afraid it's gone, as i can't find it.
i think it involved giving full access rights over pinnacle.exe to some user or group and revoking them afterwards...

as expected reinstalling PGP dind't change anything... i've checked all 3 places i know of where "Run as admin" could be enabled and it's disabled everywhere.

i'm 100% positive that pgp started without the UAC nag even after it updated itself (at which point it asked for admin priviliges once) but when i imported my .pin file the whole mess started. PGP asked for admin rights to import the .pin file (i doubleclicked it from windows explorer, probably should have imported it via the in-app option) and from that time on the UAC nag kept popping up.

i know it's just one additional mouse click but it's really getting on my nerves already...

just out of curiosity, where is that -uac_restart and -fixpubdata coming from? is that a windows-specific command line switch that is stored in the registry somewhere? this makes no sense at all. even if i create a .bat file ( the good ol' DOS days ) that just starts pinnacle.exe both switches appear in the UAC prompt details...

Sorry for the delayed response.

The -uac_restart and -fixpubdata command lines are added by pinnacle.exe when it restarts itself (after realizing that it needs admin permissions to fix the public data folder).

For whatever reason, it seems the fix is not working... so try this manual fix instead.
Go to C:\ProgramData\PowerUp Software\ and delete the "PublicData" folder that you see there. Make sure that PGP is not running when you do that.

wohoo! that did the trick. deleted the PublicData folder, started up PGP, OK'd the prompt to re-start PGP with elevated privileges. shut down pgp and restarted it again -> no UAC nag this time. totally worth the wait, thanks!
