a couple of games to look out for
I like RPG games, and most recent stuff hasn't been that good, well there are a couple of games that might interest RPG fans out there
one is an action RPG called, Grim Dawn,
Anyone here ever played a game called Titan Quest? its an action RPG from a former studio called Ironlore, (which was later sadly shut down)
However, some of the devs from Ironlore have baned together to form a new indie company called Crate Entertainment, and they are working on a game called Grim Dawn
http://www.grimdawn.com/
I've been tracking the game for a while, in fact I pre order it (they are taking pre orders for the game) but not sure when it will be released, they are a small company with limited money to support many full time staff
however from a recent post made by their lead dev, pre order sales are doing pretty well, over 1400 so far and counting, which isn't bad for a game that isn't even out yet and mainly down to word of mouth
the Devs are active on the forums, and replying and taking onboard feedback, (the lead dev recently modified the main menu of the game due to user feedback which weren't too happy about some aspects) and you don't always see that from a game studio
the engine is the same one used in Titan quest, (they managed to gain hold of the rights to use it) so this does give them an edge and a heads start that not all really have in their shoes
little more about the setting of the gmae
Players will be thrust into the dark, war-torn world of Cairn where a once proud empire has been brought to ruin and the human race driven to the edge of extinction. Cairn has become ground zero of an eternal war between two otherworldly powers, one seeking to use human bodies as a resource, the other intent upon destroying the human race before that can happen. This cataclysmic war has not only decimated human civilization but is warping the very fabric of reality and, in its wake, giving life to new horrors.
For humankind it is the dawn of a grim new age where iron has replaced gold as currency and the importance of salt as a weapon makes it far too valuable to waste on food. Small enclaves of human survivors exist scattered throughout the world, holed up in hidden refuges. These humans have quietly watched the warring invaders destroy one another and have become wise to the strengths and vulnerabilities of their otherworldly foes. A few survivors have begun to exhibit strange new abilities after surviving possession or exposure to the warp. These unnatural powers are feared by some but give many new hope of launching a resistance to fight the "outsiders" and reclaim what's left of their world.
while browsing Grim Dawn's forum, someone there posted about another RPG, they found, which is called
Legend of Grimrock

anyone remember a series of games called Eye of the Beholder series (by westwood)?
old school dungeon crawling, and this looks frelling awesome, they have no pre order system in place yet, but it seems they might get one up at some point, they hope to release the game this year, but even then don't know. I love the old school RPG games, the Dragon age games wheren't that great, (and bioware have sold their soul to the EA) and they are no longer making good games anymore, their recent games, have been plain awful
its nice to see another indie company making old school classic games, and I wish them well, and if they get a pre order system in place, I will certainly jump all over in joy and purchases several copies
I already done that with Grim Dawn, and I now mainly support indie games, I not a fan anymore of big full priced titles that only offer a few hours worth of money, and that is the sad state of affairs, games are getting shorter, they are usually bug ridden, due to been pushed out before their time. I hate publishers, as they are killing the game industry left, right and centre
well, the future of PC gaming is the indie road, that is for sure, so I say good luck to both companies and can't wait for both games
just thought I would post here in case others are interested in keeping an eye on these games and like the genre

can't find this on steam yet, maybe it will come later on thre, but Im glad its coming out on GOG, so either choice will be good, I wonder how patches will be handled on the gog version? but it might be the same version as the devs own version I guess, as there is no DRM to worry about, I think Im going to get it from GOG, but its a cheap price that is for sure, I would have gladly paid a bit more for it
but good news everyone, its coming, this mightly fine game is coming!!!
edit
the steam version is coming soon, if you pre order the game, you do get the following bonuses
Are there any pre-order bonuses?
If you pre-order now you get 20% off the retail price and early access to following goodies:
- A beautifully crafted game manual
- Legend of Grimrock world map
- Custom made grid paper to print out for all your mapping needs
- Grimrock theme music
- Wallpapers

also if you buy direct from the devs, you will be given a steam key, so will not the same as the gog version as that is standalone, hope if there are patches for the game, then they remember the GOG version, still I think the GOG version will suit me fine, and Im glad its on there, oh yes, the 20% is a pre order bonue, then it will go full price after the game is out, so pre order while you have chance everyone
