Direction Pads And POV Switches

Pinnacle Game Profiler supports three modes for direction pads (d-pads) and point-of-view (POV) switches. Changing between modes is as easy as a mouse click. No reprogramming is necessary. In each mode, you can assign any supported command to each direction of movement of the d-pad.

Standard 4-Way Mode

In Standard 4-Way Mode direction pads behave like four different buttons—one for each direction of movement—with support for diagonal movements. In this mode pressing in between two directions sends the commands for both directions. Standard 4-Way Mode is especially useful for using your d-pad to control a character's movement in a game (e.g., emulating W-A-S-D keys) because it allows you to move diagonally.

Restricted 4-Way Mode

In Restricted 4-Way Mode (Simple Mode) Pinnacle treats direction pads like four different buttons—one for each direction of movement—except diagonal movements are ignored. This is useful when you want to treat each direction of the d-pad as a separate button without the worry of accidentally triggering unintended commands by pressing in between two directions.

8-Way Mode

In 8-Way Mode the direction pad behaves like eight different buttons. Pinnacle responds to diagonal movements as if they were separate buttons. If you've used other profiling software, you may have avoided 8-way modes because you found it hard to press diagonally without accidentally pressing up, down, right, or left. With Pinnacle's patent-pending control system, you can put that worry behind you. By waiting for a short—almost imperceptible moment—Pinnacle gives you the chance to fumble your way to the desired direction. This makes it much easier to use the diagonal directions without accidentally hitting other directions. Try it for yourself and see!
